Troop 43 Yurt Camping in Chilo
Saturday, March 20 thru Sunday, March 21
Depart Saturday, March 20 at 8:30 a.m. from Mason Middle School parking lot (on the football stadium side). We will drive (about 1 hour) to Chilo in Clermont County. We will have directions for drivers. We will return around 11:00 a.m. Sunday, March 21 to Mason Middle School parking lot. We will have the Scouts call as we approach.
Cost: $5.00 per Scout and Adult. Scouts and adults should plan your meals accordingly.

We will be sleeping in one of two yurts which is a circular tent with a wood burning stove. The park is located on the site of a former US Army Corps of Engineers lock and dam along the Ohio River. The highlight of the park is the Chilo Lock 34 Visitor Center and Museum, which offers three floors of exhibits and interactive displays focusing on the history of the Ohio River and locks and dams. After exploring the visitor center, guests can go aboard the Jennie Wade, a replica of an 1800's era steamboat that sits in the park and also offers many historical pictures of the river. A 1.5 acre wetland is located in the park, providing great wildlife watching opportunities. The park is adjacent to Crooked Run Nature Preserve. There will be an afternoon tour of the Meldahl Locks and Dam (photo below) located about 5 minutes away and will be provided by the Army Corps of Engineers.
You should bring sleeping and camping gear, appropriate weather clothing, hiking boots, Scout book, folding chair, water bottle, sun screen, Frisbee, football, etc. and snack food. Bring your $5 and permission slip.
