Sea Base, located in the Florida Keys, is one of three National BSA High Adventure bases (Sea Base, Philmont, Northern Tier). During the summer of 2009, 36 members of venture crew 43 visited Sea Base, crewing three sailboats. This included 2 Coral Sea adventures (8 person crews) and one Sea Explorer adventure (20 person crew).
In June, 20 members boarded the Calypso Gypsy for a Sea Explorer adventure, while 8 members boarded the Juan Cadiz for a Coral Sea Adventure. On July, 18, a second crew of 8 boarded the Jewel of Athena for a Coral Sea adventure.
For a week, crewmembers took turns standing watch, manning sails, and cooking mess. While not on watch, participants enjoyed some of the best snorkling in the world (thanks to Captains Mike, Ron and Hammer for finding Donut reef!), practiced our newly acquired sailing skills (knots, snorkling, fishing, fancy work), enjoyed the incredible scenary, and shot a music video.
As a picture is worth a 1000 words, here are a few thousand (Stay tuned, as picture will be updated regularly as I receive additional contributions).
SEA BASE BLESSING. Bless the creatures of the sea, Bless this person I call me, Bless the Sun that warms the Land, Bless the Keys you made so grand, Bless the Fellowship we feel As we gather for this meal. ------ARRRGG MAN!
